Attraction and Retention Framework

Our people... our most valuable asset

Chief Executive Commitment

To address our workforce challenges into the future, the Head of the ACT Public Service and all Chief Executives of ACT Government agencies are committed to the Attraction and Retention Framework and its implementation. The Framework will support the ACT Public Service by improving leadership skills, managerial capability and by providing our employees with opportunities to grow and develop. The Framework supports a strong and highly skilled public service that is central to delivering quality services to the people of the ACT.

Our workforce challenge

‘…there is little unused capacity in the ACT labour market … ’ ACT Skills Commission

The ACTPS faces increasing workforce challenges in an environment of low unemployment and fierce competition for skilled employees. Our challenge is to provide employment

How do we attract and retain the right people?

The Attraction and Retention Framework has three main objectives:

  • To improve the capability of all ACT Public Service employees
  • To retain employees through professional development and targeted retention strategies
  • To attract new employees.

Agency specific attraction and retention initiatives are essential to the success of the implementation of the whole of government framework. Chief Minister’s Department will continue to work with ACT Government agencies to align the attraction and retention efforts.
