Details: Access Canberra is seeking a legal assistant to provide administrative support to the Legal Support Team. Under broad direction of the Solicitor’s in the team: Provide assistance and support in the provision of legal advice. Undertake research and assist in the preparation and provision of legal advice. Examine, evaluate and take appropriate action on reports, submissions and information submitted to the section to ensure relevance, completeness and accuracy. Contribute to the processing, and maintain a register, of all memoranda of understanding, subpoenas and third party production requests received by Access Canberra. Liaise and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders at all levels while maintaining a high level of client service. This includes the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), ACT Government Solicitor (ACTGS, statutory office holders and relevant managers in relation to Access Canberra Canberra prosecutions, civil litigation and tribunal litigation. Develop, implement and review local protocols and procedures encompassing regulating administrative law activities and investigations. Provide administrative support within the Legal Support Unit including: Review and coordinate communication and documentation in and out of the office, prioritising, redirecting, researching background information as required, and responding as appropriate. Prepare correspondence, reports, briefs, court/tribunal documents and assemble supporting documents for meetings. Coordinate responses on a range of issues for the Unit. Manage the Solicitor’s schedule, meetings and travel arrangements as required. Assume the responsibility for the safe custody and processing of legal material. Contribute generally to the work of the Legal Support Section. Maintain records in accordance with the Territory Records Act 2002.
