About the Role: We have an exciting opportunity for a Microbiology Scientist to join our team at Canberra Health Services.

We are seeking a motivated and highly organised individual who takes initiative, works collaboratively, and values being part of a supportive team. The successful applicant will be adaptable and flexible, with the ability to respond to changing priorities and deliver high-quality, client-focused services in a dynamic workplace.

This position is based within the Microbiology Department at the Canberra Hospital laboratory. The department provides a broad range of clinical diagnostic microbiology services, including bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, and parasitology.

In this role, you will process patient samples for microbiological examination, operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, read culture plates to distinguish between normal flora and pathogenic organisms, perform bacterial identification, and set up and interpret antimicrobial susceptibility testing results.

The laboratory currently operates an extended-hours service from 8:00am to 10:30pm, seven days a week. The successful applicant will be required to participate in out-of-hours and on-call rosters.

Pathology allowance may apply, if applicable as defined in the ACT Public Sector Health Professional Enterprise Agreement, Section C.
