Details: Curtin Primary School is located in the Woden/Weston Network with an enrolment of approximately 480 students. The site includes two off-site preschools and a junior and senior playground. We are seeking an experienced and proactive Building Service Officer (BSO) Level 3 to join our team. This is a diverse and rewarding role that supports the day-to-day operation of a busy school through the maintenance, presentation and ongoing management of school facilities and grounds.
The successful applicant will be responsible for coordinating and undertaking routine maintenance and repairs, maintaining school grounds and playgrounds, supporting school events, and ensuring the school environment remains safe, functional and welcoming for students, staff and visitors. The role also assists with identifying maintenance priorities, reporting facility issues, coordinating maintenance requests, and contributing to compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.
As a key member of the operational team, the Building Service Officer collaborates with school leadership, staff, contractors, and external providers to ensure smooth daily operations. Essential skills are strong organisation, initiative, effective problem-solving, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Eligibility/Other requirements:
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
- Asbestos awareness card or a willingness to obtain - Asbestos Awareness Training and evidence of completion delivered by a Registered Training Organisation is required before commencement, for further information refer to: Asbestos Awareness Training - WorkSafe ACT
- Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention: Evidence of completion of training delivered by a Registered Training Organisation for Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention is required prior to commencement. For further information refer to: WorkSafe website
- White Card: Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card) or willingness to obtain; General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
- A pre-employment medical clearance is required prior to commencement. This assessment is at the cost of the Directorate and not the applicant. If/when a request for registration is in the final stages of completion, contact will be made with the applicant to organise the medical assessment.
- Mandatory training in other WHS requirements may be provided during your employment. For example: Working at Heights, Sharps.
- A current Drivers’ Licence is essential.
