Details: The Education Directorate is delivering a major reform of public education, bringing schools together as one coordinated system with consistent evidence-based practices, stronger equity and financial sustainability. We are standing up a new team and new roles to help us deliver meaningful change for children and young people in public schools.

We are seeking experienced policy and project managers to help us see this change through. We need people who know how to get results in a government environment, who think critically, and who show leadership.

Assistant Director roles are available in multiple teams and may work flexibly to support projects across the branch. If you are a strategic thinker, a relational collaborator, a great communicator and a motivated operator, these might be the roles for you. The roles will also work flexibly across different areas of the branch and Directorate to align with organisational priorities.

The Strategic Policy branch is also hiring to similar roles at the Director level (SOGB) and Senior Policy/Project Officer level (ASO6). Applicants who would also be interested in roles at those levels may wish to apply for multiple roles.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Note: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill similar vacancies over the next 12 months.

Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.

The position involves hybrid work arrangements between 220 London Circuit and remote. Individual work arrangements can be negotiated with the Executive Branch Manager aligned with team need.

The Education Directorate is undertaking an organisation design program and changes to Directorate structures may occur after this role commences. Candidates should be prepared to work across the entire organisation in the event of structural changes.

How to Apply: Please submit:

  1. A one-page pitch addressing the ‘Professional / Technical Skills and Knowledge’, and ‘Behavioural Capabilities’ in the Position Description
  2. A current curriculum vitae
  3. Contact details of two referees, one of whom should be a current supervisor.

Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below.

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved. More information can be found here ACT Closing the Gap Implementation Plan - ACT Government Transparency Portal.
