The ACT Veterinary Practitioners Board is seeking a registered veterinary practitioner to join the Board as a Veterinary Practitioner Member from March 2027.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced veterinary professional to contribute to the ongoing development, integrity, and sustainability of the veterinary profession in the ACT. As a Board member, you will have the opportunity to influence policies, standards, and decision-making that support both veterinary practitioners and the broader community.

More than professional regulation

While the Board has important responsibilities relating to registration, standards, complaints and professional conduct, the role is about much more than judging the work of peers. Board members help guide strategic decisions that strengthen the profession, improve public confidence, support high-quality veterinary services, and ensure the profession continues to meet the needs of the community.

As a Veterinary Practitioner Member, you will bring your professional knowledge and practical experience to discussions that:

• Support and advance the veterinary profession in the ACT.
• Influence policy, standards and governance outcomes.
• Promote high standards of animal care and professional practice.
• Contribute to education and continuous improvement across the profession.
• Balance the interests of practitioners, animal owners and the wider community.
• Help shape the future direction of veterinary regulation and professional standards.

About the Board

The ACT Veterinary Practitioners Board is a statutory board responsible for regulating veterinary practitioners and veterinary premises in the ACT, developing professional standards, and supporting effective governance of the profession. The Board works collaboratively with veterinary boards across Australia and New Zealand and with key stakeholders to promote a strong and trusted veterinary profession.

Who should apply?

We encourage applications from veterinary practitioners who:

• Are currently registered and have been continuously registered for at least three years.
• Have a strong understanding of veterinary practice and professional standards.
• Are interested in contributing to the future of the profession beyond their day-to-day clinical work.
• Can bring sound judgement, strategic thinking and a commitment to good governance.
• Have an interest in policy development, regulation, education, or leadership within the profession.

Previous board, committee or governance experience is desirable but not essential. We welcome practitioners from a range of backgrounds, practice types and career stages who are passionate about making a positive contribution to the veterinary profession and the ACT community.

3. membership of professional or community organisations including membership of non-government boards and committees; and
4. other relevant experience.

1. An expression of interest (of no more than two A4 pages) outlining your suitability in accordance with the position overview above.
2. Applicants who are employed by a Commonwealth, State, or Territory government agency must obtain the necessary approval from their employer prior to submitting an application. Evidence of the relevant approval must be provided as part of the application process.
3. A completed and signed copy of the Declaration of Private Interests Form (attached).
