Details: ACT Corrective Services (ACTCS) is seeking applications from highly motivated, experienced and suitable individuals to fill the Justice Housing Program Officer (ASO6), within the Community Corrections unit.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering the Justice Housing Program (JHP), working collaboratively with government agencies, community service providers and justice-involved people to improve housing stability, support successful reintegration and contribute to reducing reoffending in the Canberra community.

Further to this, you will coordinate the Justice Housing Program initiative, which aims to reduce the population in the Alexander Maconochie Centre (AMC) through the provision of temporary accommodation and housing support for various cohorts of justice-involved people. As part of the integrated Justice Housing and Reintegration Team, the role contributes to coordinated service delivery, continuity of care and positive reintegration outcomes for individuals transitioning from custody to the community.

In addition, you will demonstrate strong administrative capability and the ability to think and act in a busy operational environment. You will possess highly developed interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, enabling you to build and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including detainees, service providers, government agencies and community organisations

You will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support housing and reintegration outcomes, contribute to contract management, compliance and accountability requirements, and assist with the administration of referrals, correspondence, records and data. You will also support integrated service delivery through information sharing, joint case coordination and knowledge sharing across Justice Housing and Reintegration functions.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Experience working with people with complex and high needs in a criminal justice, housing, or reintegration context is highly desirable.
  • Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
  • A current driver’s license (Class ‘C’) is essential.
  • Current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Check) Act 2011 is required.
  • To be eligible for permanent or temporary employment within the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or hold a valid work visa.
  • If an officer no longer holds a visa that permits them to work in Australia, their employment with the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) will be terminated.

Note: An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.

Although based at 2 Constitution Avenue, Canberra City, this role will require frequent travel to and working from the AMC and/or the courts.

How to Apply: To apply, applicants are required to submit three items: (1) A one-to-three-page written response addressing the Professional/Technical Skills and Knowledge and Behavioural Capabilities, having regard for the job requirements; (2) a current curriculum vitae with the names and contact details of two referees (one should be a current Supervisor/Manager); and (3) a copy of your current drivers licence. Please ensure you submit all required items.

Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below.

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
