Details: The Human Rights Branch in Justice and Community Safety (JACS) Legislation, Policy and Programs advises on policy and law reform and administers initiatives related to human rights, social policy, anti-discrimination, victims of crime, disability justice, redress, justice reform and restorative justice.
The Senior Director, Inclusion and Victim Policy will provide leadership to drive strategic priorities in a fast-paced work environment, working with justice portfolio agencies and collaborating across business units responsible for the delivery of justice outcomes and actions. Areas of responsibility include victims of crime and restorative justice policy, disability justice and the redress scheme. This opportunity is available from 10 September to 13 November 2026.
The Senior Director, Human Rights and Social Policy leads the team responsible for a broad range of social policy including human rights and discrimination legislation; official visitors; births deaths and marriages registration; privacy and FOI laws; guardianship and supported decision making and preventing elder abuse. The team is also responsible for scrutinising and assessing all government bills for compatibility with the Human Rights Act. This opportunity is available for three weeks in September/October 2026; and then again from mid-November through to December 2026.
These temporary vacancies are opportunities to lead these dynamic teams to deliver policy and programs that make a significant contribution to the Government’s justice reform agenda with a tangible impact on the community.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
- Experience in policy is highly desirable.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in law or a related field or significant study towards gaining qualifications is highly desirable.

and two in the Human Rights and Social Policy team:

- from mid-November 2026 to late December 2026.
These positions may be subject to extension up to six months.
