About the Role:

Are you looking for an exciting and rewarding opportunity to step into a Registered Nurse Level 2 within Canberra Health Services? Now is the time!

Canberra Health Services is the single tertiary teaching hospital for the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding NSW region serving a population in excess of 650 000, and we are expanding! Canberra Hospital is gaining a new 44,000 square metre state-of-the-art Critical Services Building opening in 2024.

The Critical Services Building will be home to a bigger emergency department with dedicated children’s emergency area, more operating rooms, more treatment spaces, and more intensive care beds. It will also have an intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging suite, three new cardiac cath labs, including a hybrid cardiac laboratory and an electrophysiology laboratory. The new building will be one of Australia’s newest and most technologically advanced health care facilities.

Level 2 nurses are required to have a minimum of 4 years’ experience or relevant post graduate qualifications.
They will provide leadership and promote a commitment to exceptional, safe, and quality healthcare. Remaining flexible to accommodate change and provide responsive services to meet patient’s, unit and organisational needs.

We have various vacancies across the following areas:

Emergency Department (ED)
Annually, the Emergency Department can have up to and more than 85,000 presentations.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
The Intensive Care Unit is a 39-bed level 3 Territory Referral Centre, which admits over 1900 patients a year.

Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL)
The Cardiac Catheter Laboratory is a part of the Cardiology services at the Canberra Hospital, providing diagnostic and interventional coronary care for emergent and elective patients.

Perioperative Services
The Peri-Operative Unit at Canberra Hospital consists of a Day of Surgery Admissions (DOSA) Unit, Operating Theatres covering a wide range of surgical specialities including obstetrics, Post Anaesthetic Care Unit (PACU) and an Extended Day Surgery Unit (EDSU) together with several out of areas procedural/invasive specialty areas.

Canberra Hospital Expansion Project – CHS is constructing a new critical services building called ‘Building 5’ which is a 44,000sqm nine storey building specifically designed to deliver state-of-the-art acute clinical services at the Canberra Hospital. Building 5 is the largest healthcare infrastructure project undertaken in the Territory’s history and it represents the largest clinical and operational change program to ever be implemented by Canberra Health Services. Building 5 integrates with a number of existing buildings at the Campus including Building 1 and Building 2, to facilitate a seamless public thoroughfare, patient transportation and back-of-house logistics distribution.

North Canberra Hospital - As of 3 July 2023 Calvary Public Hospital Bruce transitioned to CHS and became North Canberra Hospital. The transition will deliver a health system networked under one provider and will provide increased workforce opportunities for staff at both CHS sites. The ACT Government will be building a new northside hospital on the existing hospital campus in Bruce to meet the growing health care needs of our community, with construction to commence mid-decade providing more beds, increased services, and increased career opportunities.
