About the Role:
Canberra Hospital is a tertiary teaching hospital providing trauma services and most major medical and surgical sub-specialty services. The Senior Director Perioperative Services is a key position within the senior/executive leadership team and is responsible for providing operational, professional and strategic leadership, governance and directions for perioperative services for Canberra Hospital.
The Senior Director Perioperative Services and Clinical Director of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine are planned to work in a Co-director Model for Perioperative Services. The Co-directors reports to the General Manager of Canberra Hospital and this model reflect the significance and complexity of perioperative services in the delivery of safe, effective, patient-family centred care through the continuum of perioperative services. The Senior Director Perioperative Services works collaboratively with the Integrated Operations Centre to manage demand and capacity across the acute (emergency) and planned (elective) streams.
Canberra Hospital commissioned a new hospital in 2024 which has capacity for 22 operating theatres. This includes a perioperative services floor with 16 Digital Operating Theatres, 3 Hybrid Theatres, 2 Interventional Radiology Suites and an i-MRI suite adjacent to a theatre. Perioperative services including theatres, interventional and procedural suites operate in multiple locations across the campus.
The Senior Director Perioperative Services oversees the efficient and effective functioning of the operating theatres, ensuring optimal patient care and outcomes. The role involves fostering collaboration among surgeons, proceduralists, anaesthetists, nurses, support staff and interdependent services ensuring systems, processes and policies are in place to support enhanced workflow and patient safety. Strong leadership and positive collaborative relationships will be critical for success with a focus on clear decision making to provide an optimal patient experience.
