About the Role:

Canberra Hospital is a tertiary teaching hospital providing trauma service and most major medical and surgical sub-specialty services. The Office of Professional Leadership, Canberra Hospital is a key senior/leadership office, responsible for providing operational, professional and strategic leadership, governance and directions for medical, nursing & midwifery and support services for Canberra Hospital.

The Office of Professional Leadership, Canberra Hospital oversees a wide range of clinical services management and administration activities, and consists of:

Director of Medical Services (DMS)

The portfolio includes:

  • Operational management of elements for the medical workforce from Junior Medical Officers (not including prevocational doctors) to senior staff and Visiting Medical Officers.
  • Pharmacy for Canberra Hospital, University of Canberra Hospital and community.
  • Medical Imaging for Canberra Hospital, University of Canberra Hospital and community.
  • Healthcare Technology Management.

Nursing and Midwifery Director (NMD)

The portfolio includes:

  • Operational management of the critical care, medical and surgical workforce.
  • Professional leadership for the nursing and midwifery workforce across Canberra Hospital, University of Canberra Hospital and community.
  • Quality and safety and professional standards.
  • Nursing and Midwifery workforce rostering, including relief and casual pool.
  • Patient Support Services (e.g., Wardspersons, Hospital Assistants, Ward Clerks).

The Executive Officer position provides executive support and advice to the DMS and NMD, as well as to the senior leadership teams that sit under the Office of Professional Leadership portfolios. To be successful, you will need to have highly developed written and oral communication skills, be adaptable and responsive, and be able to quickly acquire knowledge and understanding of situations and subject matter.

The Executive Officer reports to the Business Manager and works closely with other senior leadership team members across CHS. The successful applicant will provide leadership to administrative staff, communicate professionally and work with flexibility, efficiency and diplomacy.
