Details: An expression of interest is invited for Head of Department – Hospitality, Culinary and Tourism to lead the Hospitality, Culinary and Tourism department. This is a temporary position available from 09 February 2026 to 02 April 2026.
This position is a dual-focused leadership role that combines strategic educational oversight with hands-on management of the department’s commercial operations, including the training restaurant and associated events. The position provides strategic leadership and effective management across teaching and learning, commercial enterprise, and stakeholder engagement to ensure high-quality educational outcomes and operational excellence. Reporting to the College Director, this role plays a pivotal part in aligning both the academic and business functions of the department with the College’s broader strategic objectives.

Mandatory Qualifications
Refer to the ACTPS CIT Educators EA 2023-2026, sub-Clause M10.8.
For managers at the Manager Education – Level one:
- All employees at Educator Level 1.3 to the Head of Department Level must hold a full Training and Assessment Certificate IV level qualification (such as a TAE40116 or equivalent) and a Diploma of Vocational Education and Training (or equivalent.)
Registration/licensing
- All Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) and ACTPS employees are required to complete a National Police Check prior to employment.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Working with vulnerable people (WWVP) registration (act.gov.au)
Desirable Industry Experience and Qualifications
- Desirable for adult learning and development qualifications, as well as leadership and management, business, or commerce related bachelor level qualifications and/or relevant industry specialisations.
- Industry experience is highly desirable (although this does not have to be in the disciplines being supervised).
- Leadership/management experience
- Knowledge and experience of User choice/apprenticeship programs
- Desirable for adult learning and development qualifications, as well as leadership and management, business, or commerce related bachelor level qualifications and/or relevant industry specialisations.
