Our team is part of the Office of Industrial Relations and Workforce Strategy which is leading work on shaping the culture and workforce practices of the ACTPS.

We have an opportunity for a Director, Legal Policy to join us here in the Public Sector Employment team and make meaningful change and contributions in the ACTPS employment framework.

As the Director, Legal Policy you can expect to be on the forefront of an exciting and challenging work program modernising a responsive and agile employment framework.

Our team is doing some leading-edge work in providing our ACTPS employees with contemporary and supportive employment entitlements. The Director, Legal Policy will lead the preparation and development of policy documentation to assist in progressing legislative reform projects.

Landing this job will mean leading a team that is responsible for developing, negotiating and implementing enterprise agreements, related policies, and processes, and for providing high quality advice to the ACT Government and directorates. You will provide a leading role in the application, implementation and interpretation of Public Sector employment related legislation. You will also collaborate to develop (or provide advice) on workable solutions, working closely with a vast range of stakeholders across the ACTPS.

Most importantly, you will work with a team of enthusiastic professionals who come from a variety of professional backgrounds and areas of expertise so don’t expect to do it alone. The Public Sector Employment team value a strong work ethic but also have a solid sense of humour. The team has a highly connected and collaborative work culture and would welcome a person who has the interpersonal qualities as well as an agile and adaptive style to match the changing workflow and priorities that come with being a small team within the CMTEDD directorate.

We have access to ongoing hybrid work arrangements including home-based and activity-based working (ABW) when working from the office (located at 220 London Circuit, Canberra City) and our new Innovation Centre.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:

⦁Legal qualifications or extensive experience in a legal discipline are highly desirable.
⦁Qualification/s or extensive experience in an IR or HR related discipline are desirable.
⦁Knowledge of ACT Public Sector Whole-of-Government processes and procedures in relation to legislative reform is desirable.
