Details: The Tourism and Investment Branch leads Economic Development’s visitor economy growth program. This includes promotion of Canberra as a place to visit, study and invest. VisitCanberra and Study Canberra sit within the Tourism and Investment Branch.

The Senior Director, International Markets and Programs leads the international program for VisitCanberra, as well as the domestic and international program activity for Study Canberra. This position requires a strong understanding of the tourism industry and travel distribution, and will lead the planning and implementation of VisitCanberra’s international activities and Study Canberra’s programs. The successful candidate will work closely with key stakeholders, including tertiary institutions, strategic partners, and national and international organisations, to promote Canberra as a destination to study and visit. As part of the senior management team, the successful candidate will play a key role in strategic planning and organisational development.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • Detailed knowledge of the tourism and hospitality sectors including travel trade and distribution, as well as aviation
  • Knowledge of the tertiary education sector
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, tourism or a related discipline are desirable
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally
  • Current passport/Current Australian driver's licence
  • Ability to work flexible hours

Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.

Please note, this position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
