Details: Join our passionate team delivering events across two of Canberra’s most iconic destinations, where tourism, conservation, and natural landscapes combine to create unforgettable experiences.

We’re seeking a Senior Events Officer to play a key role in planning, coordinating, and delivering events across our award-winning venues - the National Arboretum Canberra and Stromlo Forest Park.

In this role, you’ll manage a diverse and dynamic events portfolio, with a strong focus on coordinating external event approvals and processes. You’ll work closely with event organisers to assess proposals, guide them through venue requirements, and ensure events meet safety, operational, and compliance standards. Events range from gala balls at the Arboretum to major sporting events such as mountain bike championships at Stromlo.

Alongside this, you’ll play a key role in the planning and delivery of internal events and programs at the Arboretum, supporting a growing calendar of ticketed and community experiences that showcase the precinct.

As a central point of coordination, you’ll liaise with clients, contractors, internal teams, and the Arboretum’s onsite caterer. Success in this role will require strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and a proactive, hands-on approach, along with the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple sites and stakeholders.

Predominantly based at the National Arboretum Canberra, this position supports events across both the Arboretum and Stromlo Forest Park, offering exposure to a broad and varied events portfolio.

This is a full-time role that includes some after-hours and weekend work, including for Kitefest in September and the Australia Day long weekend in January.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • Current Driver's licence
  • First Aid Certificate required
  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Availability to work weekends and after hours as required.

Note:  This is a temporary position available from 5 August 2026 to 25 February 2027 with the possibility of permanency.

A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

How to Apply: Please provide the following as part of your application:

  • A maximum two-page written response outlining your demonstrated experience and skills relevant to the ‘What You Require’ section of the Position Description.
  • A current curriculum vitae detailing your work history, qualifications, and achievements and contact details for two referees.

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

Where an offer of employment is for a fixed-term period, any related temporary contracts within the Territory will be issued in compliance with the requirements and applicable exceptions outlined in the Fair Work Act.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
