We are seeking an enthusiastic and capable leader to help grow the Fair Trading and Compliance branch. This role plays an important role in ensuring consumer protection and regulatory compliance through inspections, conciliation, investigations, education, and enforcement. We collaborate closely with other jurisdictions under the Australian Consumer Law to deliver strong outcomes for Canberra consumers.
Within the Fair Trading and Compliance branch, the teams support informed decision-making and reduces harm through proactive programs, public engagement, and investigations. Our regulatory scope includes liquor, security, fair trading, gaming and racing, working with vulnerable people, and agents.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Lead a high-performing team in a fast-regulatory environment.
 - Motivate staff and support sounds decision-making under pressure.
 - Engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
 - Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver innovative solutions.
 - Interpret and apply complex legislation and regulatory frameworks.
 
Eligibility/Other Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 - Strong stakeholder engagement capabilities.
 - Certificate IV in Government (Investigation) or similar in a regulatory field is highly desirable.
 - A full driver’s licence Class C is essential.
 
Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
