Details: Roads ACT is seeking a highly motivated person with expertise in Sign Maintenance and Line marking to join the Works team.

The primary responsibilities of the position are to lead an operational work crew and contractors carrying out general road maintenance duties, with accountability for administration, productivity, efficiency, quality standards, work, health, safety systems and environmental requirements.

The position will lead a signs and lines team in the Works business unit within Roads ACT. Roads ACT is looking for candidates who have experience working on construction sites, preferably installing signs and/or applying linemarking to pavements on a road environment.

Roads ACT is a Multidisciplinary Branch responsible for the management of the territorial and municipal roads, national highways, the community paths, stormwater system, bridges, carpark facilities, traffic signals, streetlights and associated infrastructure. Roads ACT manage these assets on behalf of the ACT Government for the enjoyment of the Canberra community.

The Works business unit undertakes predominantly in-house work, providing a 24/7 incident response service, street sweeping, lines and signs, roadside furniture, road grading, concrete path repairs and asphalt resurfacing.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • Visa holders are eligible to apply for both permanent and temporary roles. Those with eligible visas may be considered for permanent employment, while individuals with temporary residency or limited-duration visas may be offered permanent employment for the duration of their visas.
  • Current driver’s licence class C is essential, class MR (medium rigid) essential or ability to obtain within three months of appointment.
  • Experience working in infrastructure industry (highly desirable).
  • CPCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry – essential.
  • 11084NAT - Course in Asbestos Awareness - essential.
  • 10830NAT - Course in Crystalline Silica Exposure Prevention – essential.
  • Willingness to work overtime/shifts as and when required.
  • Willingness to undertake training activities to meet operational and organisational expectations.
  • Willingness to undertake computer and in field technology training and use.
  • This position does require a pre-employment medical.
  • This position does not require a Working with Vulnerable People Check.
  • Plant Operators Certificate/Licence (desirable) essential within 3 months of appointment.
  • HLTAIDO11 – Provide First Aid – essential or ability to obtain within three months of appointment.
  • Traffic controller (TCR) – essential or ability to obtain within three months of appointment.
  • Certificate III or above in a Civil Construction related trade (desirable).
