Details: Help shape the future of procurement and commercial practice in a new directorate.
We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Director, Contracts and Commercial to join our newly established Central Procurement Team. This is a newly created role, offering a rare opportunity to build and lead a commercial function from the ground up within the City and Environment Directorate (CED).
In this strategic leadership role, you will provide authoritative advice on complex, high-value and high-risk procurements, contracts and commercial arrangements. You’ll partner with senior leaders across government to design commercial strategies, lead negotiations, and ensure strong governance and risk management practices are in place.
You will lead a high-performing team and set the direction for commercial and contract management practices across the Directorate—shaping frameworks, uplifting capability, and embedding a culture focused on delivering value for the community.
This is a role for someone who thrives on influence, enjoys solving complex challenges, and wants to make a lasting impact in a new and evolving environment.
Eligibility/Other requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Commerce, Business, or a related discipline are highly desirable.
- Significant experience in complex procurement, contract, and commercial advisory roles, ideally within an ACT Government or comparable public sector context.
Notes: Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. This position has moved to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, flexible start and finish times.
How to Apply: Please provide:
- A pitch (no more than two pages) outlining your skills, experience and why you are suitable for the role, addressing the Selection Criteria; and
- A current curriculum vitae including the contact details of two referees.
Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below.
Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.
The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
