Details: We are seeking a suitable candidate to work for the Office of the Environment Protection Authority for 18 weeks.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Environmental Quality team, this Environment Protection Officer role is primarily responsible for administering the granting and review of environmental authorisations in accordance with the Environment Protection Act 1997 and Regulation 2005 and carrying out inspections to assess compliance of authorisation holders and businesses with relevant legislation and regulations, including the commercial use of agricultural and veterinary chemicals and the sale and supply of firewood.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:
- Knowledge and experience in the application of technical and practical methods used in the control of pollutants to air, water and land, in particular the control of use and disposal of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.
- Sound understanding of the relevant legislation requirements, policies and practices that govern the EPA’s operations, in particular the Environment Protection Act 1997.
- Ability to undertake inspections to assess compliance with relevant legislation and prepare compliance documents relating to these matters
- Sound interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate well both orally and in writing, including representing the EPA at relevant committees and meetings.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as part of a team or individually on projects and perform under minimal supervision.
- Understanding of, and ability to support and apply government policies including, Participative Work Practises, Workplace Diversity and Occupational Health and Safety.
- Driver’s licence, C-Class, is essential for this position.
Notes: This is a temporary position available from 24 August 2026 until 24 December 2026. This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
