Details: If you're curious about the stories places and objects can tell and want to play a key role in protecting the ACT’s heritage, this could be the opportunity for you. 

As an Assessment Officer, you will assess the heritage significance of places and objects nominated to the ACT Heritage Register, helping to ensure the ACT’s valued heritage is identified, understood and conserved for future generations. This role is central to supporting heritage registration decisions made by the ACT Heritage Council.

You will undertake detailed historical and heritage research, analyse evidence from a range of sources, and apply the statutory heritage assessment criteria to prepare clear, well-reasoned assessments and recommendations.

Your work will inform decision-making on whether places and objects meet the threshold for heritage registration.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Qualifications, experience or demonstrated capability in a heritage-related field, including cultural heritage management, archaeology, architecture, history, planning, landscape architecture, anthropology, conservation management or a related discipline are highly desirable.
  • Experience or demonstrated capability in heritage research, significance assessment, or assessing Aboriginal places and objects.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing heritage assessments, nominations, statements of significance or related reports within a heritage, planning, regulatory or cultural heritage environment.
  • Working knowledge of the Heritage Act 2004 and heritage assessment practice, or the demonstrated ability to acquire this knowledge quickly.
  • This position does not require a Working with Vulnerable People Check.
  • This position does not require a Security Clearance.

An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.
