Details: As part of a small team, you will contribute to the planning and delivery of bushfire mitigation and preparedness programs across the ACT. This includes supporting the implementation of key frameworks such as the Bushfire Operations Plan (BOP) and Regional Fire Management Plans (RFMP). You will also play an important role in strengthening digital and data capabilities by working with GIS systems and developing public-facing fire management information interfaces.
In this role, you will assist in delivering bushfire mitigation programs, including prescribed and cultural burning, fire trail maintenance, and fuel management activities. You will maintain and analyse spatial data using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online and support the development of communication tools such as web maps and digital platforms.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Tertiary qualifications (Diploma/ Degree etc) in Geographical Information Systems, Remote Sensing, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or extensive experience.
- Work a shift roster, weekends, public holidays or evening shifts at any site on an “as needs” basis;
- wear a uniform.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
- possess and maintain a current drivers license; and
- Be currently able and prepared to undertake and maintain the Moderate level of the national fire fighting task based assessment (fire fitness)
Highly Desirable:
- Experience in, or understanding of the Australian Inter-Agency Incident Management system (AIIMS).
- A current First Aid Certificate.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately until 20 November 2026 with the possibility of extension. An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 month. Selection may be based on application only.
