Details: About us: The Light Rail Operations branch in Transport Canberra is responsible for overseeing the successful operation of light rail by our contracted partner, Canberra Metro and ensuring that the responsibilities of both the Territory and Canberra Metro, under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement, are achieved. The branch manages the interactions with Canberra Metro and leads coordination across the ACT Government of related activities, including emergency services, roads interfaces, legislation, planning approvals and ticketing and revenue protection. Light Rail Operations works closely with Infrastructure Canberra on future stages of Light Rail in the ACT.

About you: Light Rail Operations is seeking a strong communicator and skilled multi-tasker with proven experience in an operational environment and a strong customer service mindset to fill the temporary vacancy of Senior Operations Engagement Officer.

About the role: The role is initially until 30 June 2026, however there may be the opportunity to extend the term subject to future operational requirements. Under limited direction, the position is responsible for the following tasks:

  • Collaborate with internal Government and external stakeholders to deliver a high-quality customer experience including supporting customer experience activities and surveys.
  • Support Stage 2A operational readiness, special event planning, and interface management.
  • Assist with light rail contract performance monitoring and reporting.
  • Provide support for the planning and implementation of light rail service changes, special event planning and coordination of external stakeholder engagement.
  • Coordinate and implement special community initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders including for example: ‘Ride with Pride’, NAIDOC, and Rail Safety Week.
  • Maintain operational databases and prepare simple written briefs and reports, advisory notes, presentations, correspondence, performance analysis and documentation.
  • Any other duties as directed.
  • This position may involve limited supervision of staff (as required).

Eligibility/Other Requirements: Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. The person in this position may be required to participate in drug and alcohol testing.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. Please note, this position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
