Details: Capital Linen Service is looking for a people-focused HR generalist to join our small, collaborative HR team as a Senior HR Officer. This is an opportunity to take on a broad and rewarding role in a fast-paced operational environment where your advice, judgement and ability to build trusted relationships will have a direct impact.

Reporting to the Director HR, you will provide practical and responsive HR support across the employment lifecycle. Your work will include injury management, recruitment, employee relations, workforce planning, organisational change, learning and development, workforce reporting and continuous improvement.

You will work closely with managers, supervisors, employees, central HR teams and external service providers to resolve workplace matters, strengthen workforce capability and support safe, fair and consistent people management practices.

This is an opportunity to undertake meaningful work and contribute to an essential commercial operation within the ACT Government.

Capital Linen Service has provided commercial linen hire and laundry services across Canberra and the surrounding region since 1978.

Operating from a modern industrial facility in Mitchell, we support more than 120 health, aged care and accommodation providers and process more than 7,200 tonnes of linen each year.

What you will do

In this role, you will:

  • Provide accurate, timely and practical advice on employment legislation, enterprise agreements, policies, procedures and HR practices.
  • Coordinate and support workplace injury management and return to work activities for compensable and non-compensable matters.
  • Manage end-to-end recruitment activities, including position description development, advertising, assessment, selection documentation and onboarding.
  • Assist CLS managers and supervisors with guidance, support and training as required on employment matters.
  • Undertake research, investigation and analysis and prepare clear, evidence-based correspondence, briefs, reports and case documentation.
  • Appropriately manage sensitive or complex workplace issues.
  • Build effective working relationships across Capital Linen Service, the broader City and Environment Directorate and external service providers.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of HR systems, processes and the employee experience.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

Professional / Technical Skills

  • Demonstrated experience interpreting, advising and actioning employment legislation, policies and processes within a public sector employment environment.
  • Experience undertaking injury case management, recruitment activities and employment lifecycle processes and initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and deliver quality outcomes within agreed timeframes.

Behavioural Skills

  • Well-developed communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills including a demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and work with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to appropriately handle sensitive workplace matters and material with confidentiality, showing sound judgement and integrity.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under limited direction while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Compliance Requirements / Qualifications

  • A tertiary qualification in HR and/or extensive relevant HR experience in the public sector is highly desirable.
  • To be eligible for permanent employment within the ACT Public Service you must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or applicable visa holder.
  • C class Driver’s licence is recommended.
  • This position does not require a pre-employment medical.
  • This position does not require a Working with Vulnerable People Check.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of up to six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency.
