Details: The Museum Conservation Assistant position in the Cultural Facilities Corporation is a unique and exciting role supporting arts and culture in the ACT.

We are looking for a highly motivated museums and heritage enthusiast. You will assist with the conservation of the museum’s collection and presentation at Lanyon Homestead, Mugga Mugga Cottage and Calthorpes House – three of Canberra’s most significant historic properties. This role is part of the Collection Management team that is responsible for the care, documentation and conservation of the collections at ACT Historic Places and the Canberra Museum + Gallery.

Duties include:

  • Undertake specialised and general conservation cleaning at Lanyon Homestead, Calthorpes House and Mugga Mugga Cottage, with a focus on heritage buildings and collections maintenance.
  • Maintain the presentation of the historic properties in accordance with curatorial guidelines, the ACT Historic Places Collection Policy, Conservation Management Plans and other relevant procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining the security of the collection and buildings and prepare the site/s for public access. Monitor and report repair and maintenance issues.
  • Provide support in object condition reporting, documentation, accessioning, packing and movement of objects and data entry and in the implementation of the Integrated Pest Management Program.

Ideally, we’re looking for an experienced Museums Conservation Assistant who enjoys working at historic sites and with museum collections, is super-organised, takes initiative, and is passionate about caring for collections and historic sites.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Experience working in ACT Government would be welcome but not essential.
