Details: Help shape the future of Digital Identity in the ACT. ACT Digital is seeking an Assistant Director, Identity and Digital Service Policy to join our team as soon as possible. This is an opportunity to influence policy that supports safer, simpler and more trusted access to digital services for the ACT community.
ACT Digital currently has two opportunities in our team:
- A full-time permanent opportunity - P43929
- A part-time temporary opportunity (5-days per fortnight) for a period of 6-months with potential extension for up to 12-months in total - P72350
About the Role
- Develop high-quality, evidence-based Digital Identity policy and advice for the ACT, including on privacy, consent, verifiable credentials and trusted digital service delivery.
- Help shape and maintain the policy frameworks that underpin the ACT Digital Account and support secure, accessible and user-centred government services.
- Support the ACT’s participation in cross-government and cross-jurisdiction meetings, working with the Commonwealth, states and territories to advance nationally aligned and interoperable Digital Identity ecosystems.
- Build productive relationships with policy, technical and service-delivery stakeholders, and translate complex issues into clear, practical advice for senior executives and decision-makers.
- Prepare briefs, submissions, reports and discussion papers, and represent Digital Canberra in key forums helping to shape Australia’s evolving Digital Identity landscape.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
Eligibility/Other requirements: What We Are Looking For
- Experience engaging in research activities and developing policy, strategy or advisory products and turning complex issues into practical, evidence-based recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to engage constructively across agencies, jurisdictions and professional disciplines.
- An interest in Digital Identity, privacy, trust, inclusion and the future of government service delivery.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, work proactively and contribute positively in a fast-paced team environment.
- A collaborative and adaptable approach, with a commitment to continuous improvement and the ACTPS values and signature behaviours.
Why join ACT Digital?
- Contribute to nationally significant policy work that will influence how people securely prove who they are and access services across Australia.
- Work with a supportive, high-performing team and collaborate with experts across government and other jurisdictions.
- Build your experience in a fast-moving policy area with strong executive and whole-of-government visibility.
- Access flexible hybrid working arrangements, with the option to work from home when office attendance is not required to support branch activities or functions.
Notes: There is one full-time permanent position available and one part-time temporary position available for six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months. Part-time hours per week and the full-time salary noted above will be pro-rata.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
This position will be moving to a new workplace designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
How to Apply: Please review the position description and submit the following:

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.
The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
