Details: Digital Canberra is seeking an experienced leader to perform the role of Assistant Director, Data Policy and Governance, from 17 August 2026 to 4 September 2026.
This role is at the centre of the ACT Government’s data agenda, leading the development and implementation of whole-of-government policies, governance frameworks and strategic initiatives that support trusted, responsible and effective use of data.
Reporting to the Senior Director and working across government, you will provide expert advice on complex policy issues, drive reform projects, and help strengthen data governance, stewardship and evidence-based decision-making across the ACT Public Service. You will lead a small team, fostering collaboration, capability and a culture of continuous improvement.
In this role you will deliver a number of key priorities for the period from 17 August to 4 September 2026:
- Present to a Whole-of-Government Data Governance Group on current data policy initiatives, strategic priorities and key policy reform activities.
- Coordinate preparation for upcoming national data meetings, including the Data Policy Partnership Group reporting to the Joint Council on Closing the Gap, through stakeholder engagement, briefing development and strategic policy analysis.
- Continue delivery of the ACT Government audit of datasets relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including stakeholder consultation, data collection and assessment activities, and preparation of findings and recommendations.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
Note: This is a temporary position available from 17 August 2026 to 4 September 2026. This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only.
Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.
How to Apply: Interested applicants are requested to submit an EOI of no more than one page addressing the key priorities identified, a current curriculum vitae and contact details for two referees.
Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below.
Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.
Where an offer of employment is for a fixed-term period, any related temporary contracts within the Territory will be issued in compliance with the requirements and applicable exceptions outlined in the Fair Work Act.
The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
