Details: Maribyrnong Primary School is seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Coaching and Mentor Officer to join its vibrant and inclusive learning community. Working under general direction and in collaboration with the Business Manager and school leadership team, this role provides leadership, mentoring, and professional guidance to Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) while maintaining an active role in supporting students with diverse and complex needs.

The successful applicant will play a key role in strengthening inclusive and trauma-informed practices across the school by mentoring LSAs, coordinating professional learning opportunities, supporting staff induction and development, and promoting consistent, high-quality support practices. The role requires a balance of leadership, coaching, administration, and direct student support, including working within a small program as an LSA for two days each week.

You will contribute to student engagement and learning outcomes by supporting LSAs in implementing effective strategies, maintaining accurate records and documentation, coordinating collaboration across teams, preparing reports and correspondence, and building strong relationships with teachers, families, leadership, and external stakeholders. The position also involves working with school systems and databases including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Sentral, and Google Workspace while ensuring sensitive information is managed confidentially and in accordance with legislative requirements.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra

Desirables

  • Experience in an administration and coaching or mentoring role.
  • First Aid Certificate or a willingness to undertake appropriate training.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience using Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Completion, or near completion, of a Certificate IV in School-Based Education Support (or equivalent).
  • Experience leading or facilitating professional learning sessions.
  • Familiarity with ACT Education Directorate procedures, legal frameworks for Learning Support Assistants, and OVRA planning processes.

Note: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
