The Risk, Security and Emergency Management (RSEM) section within the Governance Branch, is seeking suitable individuals to apply for the Risk and Insurance Officer position. This position is an active member of the RSEM team, undertaking a range of functions in support of schools and the Directorate including risk, insurance, protective security, and emergency management.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated and adaptable team member with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. They will coordinate and support the development and implementation of strategies, plans and policies to effectively manage risk and minimise impacts on the Directorate. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex and sensitive issues with sound judgement, discretion, and confidence. The successful applicant will also contribute to strengthening risk maturity and capability across the Directorate.

The Risk and Insurance Officer is an effective communicator with strong interpersonal oral and written communication skills, networking with key internal and external partners.


Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Experience in the areas of risk, insurance, and protective security will be highly regarded.
  • Experience in electronic management system such as TRIM, Wire, Objective and Microsoft suite will be an advantage.
  • Driver’s licence is essential.

Notes: This is a temporary position available from 1 August for a period of up to 12 months, with the possibility of permanency. An order of merit will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, being a combination of working from home, designated office based and FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT. This position requires the occupant to be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia under the Public Sector Management Act 1994.
