Details: Kingsford Smith School is seeking a highly organised and proactive Facilities Manager to oversee the day-to-day operational management of our Preschool to Year 10 school campus. This dynamic role is responsible for coordinating school facilities, maintenance, security, contractor management, grounds, cleaning services, workplace health and safety compliance, and operational projects across the school. The successful applicant will work closely with school leadership, external contractors, School Facilities Management, and community stakeholders to ensure the school environment remains safe, functional, and welcoming for students, staff, and the wider community. The Facilities Manager will also support areas including procurement processes, community facility hire, emergency management, key and access control systems, asset coordination, and the supervision of operational support functions. We are seeking a motivated individual with strong organisational and communication skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a practical, solutions-focused approach within a busy school environment.

This position is classified as Building Services Officer Level 4 (BSO4).

Eligibility/Other requirements:

Applicants should have demonstrated experience in facilities, operations, maintenance coordination, or asset management within a complex environment.

The successful applicant will possess strong organisational, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. The role includes coordinating and supervising Building Service Officer (BSO) staff, contractors, maintenance programs, cleaning services, security systems, and operational projects across the school.

Mandatory requirements:

  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Workplace Health and Safety Induction (White Card) or willingness to obtain; General Construction Induction Card (White Card)
  • Asbestos awareness card or a willingness to obtain - Asbestos Awareness Training and evidence of completion delivered by a Registered Training Organization is required before commencement, for further information refer to: Asbestos Awareness Training - WorkSafe ACT
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Pre-employment medical clearance prior to commencement

Desirable:

  • Industry recognised trade qualification or equivalent facilities/operations experience
  • Experience in contractor management, WHS, facilities maintenance and operational project coordination
  • Microsoft Office suite skills
  • Current First Aid Certificate

Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
