Details: Bimberi Youth Justice Centre (Bimberi) is seeking experienced, committed, and suitably qualified individuals to permanently join our team as Team Leaders.

Team Leaders play an important role in leading the day-to-day operations of the Bimberi, through support and supervision of a team of youth workers and ensuring close interactions and supervision of young people, to meet their individual needs through therapeutic, trauma informed, care.

The position occupant is required to work in a team environment to maintain a safe, healthy, caring and supportive environment for young people with a strong focus on promoting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, protocols and practices.

Team Leaders play an important role in identifying and managing risk and maintaining the safety and security of Bimberi. The occupant of this position will require experience in working in a youth justice environment, the ability to supervise staff, set priorities and interpret and apply policies, procedures and regulations. Team Leaders are required to undertake shift work.

Bimberi Youth Just Centre is a human rights compliant youth detention facility, providing safe and secure accommodation for young people aged 14 to 21 years, who are remanded in custody or sentenced by the ACT Children’s or Supreme Courts.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • This role may work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people. Cultural awareness, and capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is required.
  • This position does require a Working with Vulnerable People card. Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required.   • This position does require a First Aid Certificate.
  • A driver’s license is desirable.
  • Completion of Youth Worker Certificate IV and/or relevant qualification in the behavioural sciences is desirable but not required.
  • Two years experience working with children and/or young people.
  • Experience in a detention environment.

As this role is likely to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, and capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable.

Notes:
Team Leaders will be required to work a rotating roster that will include alternating day and night shifts incorporating some weekends and public holidays.

A merit pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.

Selection may be based on application, psychometric assessment, a medical/fitness assessment, interview and referee reports.
