Details: Are you experienced in communication and engagement, fluent in Auslan, and passionate about accessibility and inclusion? If so, we want to hear from you!
As Assistant Director, you will lead whole-of-government initiatives to deliver accessible communication for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community, ensuring government engagement with the ACT community is inclusive and responsive to need.
This newly established position is a key action under the ACT Disability Strategy 2024–2033, reflecting ACT Government’s commitment to building a more inclusive and accessible community. The role sits within the Health and Community Services Directorate (HCSD) Communication and Engagement Branch and serves as a critical resource supporting communication and engagement initiatives across the ACT Government.
The successful candidate will be confident in creating and delivering Auslan video content and skilled in supporting colleagues to enhance accessibility practices. You will collaborate with key stakeholders across government to support and enhance accessible communication practices.
You will bring a strong understanding of the Deaf and hard-of-hearing community and work to build and maintain meaningful relationships both within the community and across government. You will draw on research and community insights to deliver communication that is inclusive, effective, and responsive.
If you are ready to lead meaningful change in how the ACT Government communicates with Deaf and hard of hearing community, we encourage you to apply.
We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where people with diverse thoughts, lived experience, and perspectives can thrive and contribute their unique talents to the ACTPS and ACT community. We encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with disability, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older workers, and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities to apply.
Eligibility/Other Requirements: We are looking for a communication and engagement professional, and we are strongly encouraging applications from people who are deaf or hard of hearing. Please reach out to Angie Drake at Angie.Drake@act.gov.au for additional information about the role or to discuss any access considerations that will support participation in the process.
