Details:  Are you passionate about shaping the future of data governance? We’re seeking a dynamic and driven Assistant Director to join the Data Strategy and Governance section with our Data Analytics Branch, available immediately until 31 October 2025.

The Assistant Director will contribute to the work of the Data Strategy and Governance section by developing data policies and playing a key role in enabling secure and ethical data sharing. You will support the Director, Data Governance to deliver high-impact data governance services that support strategic decision-making across the directorate. You’ll also collaborate with key teams across the Data Analytics Branch—including Health System and Services Data, Government Briefing, Reporting and Analysis, and Health Service Planning—to ensure data is managed, governed, and leveraged effectively.

The Assistant Director, Data Strategy and Governance will:

  • Develop data governance policies, procedures and frameworks.
  • Manage the data breach process, including the registry and associated briefs and reporting.
  • Provide secretariat services to data governance committees.
  • Develop briefing material for the Chief Health Data Officer ahead of national committee meetings.
  • Support the Director, Data Governance to deliver policy advice in light of directorate’s legal and policy obligations.
  • Assist with the conduct of due diligence assessments for data requests.
  • Lead stakeholder engagement in the development and delivery of data sharing agreements.

Eligibility/ Other Requirements:

  • We are looking for someone who can demonstrate good stakeholder liaison skills, advanced writing skills for government and the ability to pivot and respond to a rapidly changing environment.
  • An understanding of legislation relevant to health data, and an interest in data governance would be an advantage.

Note: This position is available to ACT Government officers and employees only. This is a temporary position available immediately until 31 October 2025 with the possibility of extension up to six months. Appointment may be based on written applications and referee checks only. A merit pool may be established from this selection process and may be used to fill similar temporary vacancies of up to six months over the next 12 months. This position has access to hybrid work arrangements being a combination of working from home and workplaces including at 2-6 Bowes St, Phillip, designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers do not have a designated workstation/desk and can use FlexiSpace working locations across the ACT.
