Details: We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director, Capability Development to lead workforce capability uplift and drive continuous practice improvement across Child and Youth Services (CYF). This is an opportunity to shape professional excellence, influence system-wide reform, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of children, young people, and their families.

As the Director, Capability Development, you will lead the Practice Leaders, Case Analysis, and Capability Development functions within CYF, ensuring a coordinated and strategic approach to workforce capability. You will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of a cohesive capability framework that supports staff to deliver high-quality, consistent practice.

The role involves driving the development of training programs, practical resources, tools, and cultural development initiatives that embed organisational policy into everyday practice. You will also oversee practice analysis and continuous improvement activities, ensuring insights are translated into meaningful capability uplift across the workforce.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or related discipline and equivalent work experience in child protection and/or youth justice is essential.
  • At least five (5) years of practical experience working with children, youth and/or families in a social work/case management role, and/or experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities.
  • As this role will support staff working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and young people, cultural awareness, the capacity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is highly desirable.
  • Experience in preparation and delivery of online and or face to face training modules is highly desirable.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in project management, change management or related discipline and or Expertise in the use of ICT business systems and applications used to develop training modules is desirable.
  • Background / Security clearance checks will be conducted.
  • Driver’s license (C class) is essential.
  • This position does require a pre-employment medical.
  • This position does require a Working with Vulnerable People Check.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately until 14 April 2027 with the possibility of extension and/or permanency. A merit pool may be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
