Background Information
The Disability Advisory Council (DAC) is a ministerial council established by the Disability Inclusion Act 2024 (the Act).
The Act commits the ACT Government to implementing a framework to drive disability inclusion outcomes across the ACT Community and ACT public service.
The DAC will provide advice to the Minister about issues affecting people with disability. The DAC will also work to foster cooperative relationships between people with disability, their families, their carers, relevant organisations, government, and the community. Members of the DAC will draw on their own experience and their engagement with people with disability to provide that advice.
We are seeking applications from people in the ACT disability community to join the DAC through an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. Following a merit-based selection process, the ACT Minister of Disability will appoint successful applicants to the DAC.
Position Description
The DAC will comprise a Chair, Deputy Chair and up to 10 members from the disability community.
The ACT Government is seeking applications from people with disability noting the DAC Chair, and at least half the members on the DAC are required to be people with disability.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people with culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, veterans, younger and older people and people with diverse genders, sexes and sexualities are encouraged to apply. In accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994, there is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
The DAC will meet up to six times per year, for approximately two-hours. On occasion, DAC members may be requested to attend out-of-session meetings. Members will be remunerated for meetings and some out-of-session forums and engagements. Members are expected to participate actively and constructively in meeting discussions, community consultations and work projects; and maintain links with the community.
Additional information about the DAC including roles and responsibilities of DAC members can be found in the DAC Terms of Reference.
Please note, ACT Government public servants/officials are not eligible to apply for membership on the DAC.
