The ACT Cemeteries and Crematoria Governing Board (the Board) governs the operations of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Authority (the Authority) operating commercially as Canberra Memorial Parks which provides burial and cremation memorial services at three locations: Gungahlin, Woden and Hall.
Cemetery services must meet the range of faith and cultural needs of the community.
The Authority is a fully self-funded Statutory Government Authority and is the sole provider of burial services in the ACT.
The Authority also operates the only public owned Crematorium at the Gungahlin site.
The Authority has also been appointed as the operator for the proposed new Southern Memorial Park.
The Board is comprised of at least six members, but no more than 12.
The current Board membership sits at 10, including the CEO.
The Minister is responsible for member appointments ensuring the Board is sufficiently diverse to carry out its functions.
Job description
There is one expected member vacancy commencing in May 2026 with the successful candidate to be appointed for a period of up to three years.
A person who has legal qualifications and/or high-level governance skills are eligible to apply for this position.
These skills will help the Board in carrying out the objects of the Act ensuring equitable decisions under its legislation.
Members are expected to:
- contribute to business outside of scheduled meetings, this includes responding to emails and reviewing accompanying documents and attending out of session meetings as required and agreed by the Board;
- contribute to Board meetings and deliberations, and the overall good governance of the Board;
- participate and contribute to the work of the Board’s sub-committee structure.
