Details: The Restorative Justice Unit is looking for a person to work with us as an Indigenous Guidance Partner.  An IGP offers culturally sensitive support to people in the justice system who identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Island origin.

Our commitment is for clients of RJU to experience a justice process that is more respectful and sensitive to the needs of First Nations people involved in the justice system and affected by crime.

The goal is to assist First Nations clients to feel confident and ready to participate in an RJ conference, by taking the journey with them and walking alongside.

To provide these services we ask that the successful candidate:

  • work responsively
  • connect clients with other agencies if they need more help
  • understand the causes of over representation; and
  • understand the history of justice and government agencies with First Nations peoples.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • This is an Identified position in accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only open to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity is considered essential and therefore confirmation of cultural identity may be requested.
  • This position requires Working with Vulnerable People registration. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Driver’s licence is essential.
  • Education/experience in behavioural/social sciences or community support work is desirable.
  • Education/experience in supporting First Nations people interacting with the criminal justice system is desirable.

Note: This is a temporary vacancy available immediately for up to six months. This is an Identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples only.

Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.

How to Apply: Interested applicants should submit a supporting statement (no more than two pages) outlining practical experience and examples related to the role, with reference to the Professional/Technical Skills & Knowledge and the Behavioural Capabilities (found in the Position Description), a current curriculum vitae and the name and contact details of two referees (including your current or most recent manager/supervisor).

Applications should be submitted via the Apply Now button below.

Note: Under the ACTPS employment framework you may be placed in another role where required for the efficient administration of the service.

Where an offer of employment is for a fixed-term period, any related temporary contracts within the Territory will be issued in compliance with the requirements and applicable exceptions outlined in the Fair Work Act.

The ACT public service is committed to closing the gap, underpinned by the belief that when Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have a genuine say in the design and delivery of policies, programs and services that affect them, better life outcomes are achieved.
