The ACT Courts and Tribunal (ACTCT) is seeking an enthusiastic and proactive Administrative Assistant to join our People and Governance team. This role provides administrative support across a broad range of people, governance, communication and organisational initiatives and is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, working with people and making a meaningful contribution to team success.

As an Administrative Assistant, you will support activities including staff communications, professional development, complaints management, freedom of information matters, records management, workforce administration, event coordination and a range of people and governance projects.

About ACT Courts and Tribunal

The ACTCT supports the administration of justice in the ACT by delivering high-quality services to judicial officers, tribunal members, court users and the wider community. Through a range of registry, court support, forensic, corporate and strategic services, ACTCT plays a vital role in ensuring the effective operation of the Supreme Court, Magistrates Court and ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (ACAT).

What You'll Do

As the Administrative Assistant, you will provide administrative and coordination support across a diverse range of People and Governance activities. You will maintain records and electronic filing systems, support the management of complaints and information requests, coordinate professional development activities, manage registers and databases, and assist with a variety of workforce administration processes. The role will also involve preparing reports, correspondence and other workplace documents, responding to staff enquiries, coordinating meetings, managing shared mailboxes, supporting organisational projects and events, and building productive relationships with stakeholders across ACTCT.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking a motivated and organised individual with experience providing high-quality administrative support in a busy workplace. You will have strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines. You will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, building positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, and handling sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion. A proactive approach, strong organisational skills, and experience in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel, will help you succeed in this role.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

Compliance Requirements/Qualifications

  • Understanding of a court or legal environment is highly desirable.
  • Experience in using the Microsoft Office Suite, MS Teams, Adobe Acrobat and HP Record Manager (TRIM) and the ability to learn new programs/systems quickly is highly desirable.
  • To be eligible for permanent or temporary employment within the ACTPS you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or hold a valid work visa.
  • If an officer no longer holds a visa that permits them to work in Australia, their employment with the ACTPS will be terminated.
  • The successful candidate will be required to undergo a National Criminal History check.
  • This position does not require a Working with Vulnerable People registration.
  • This position does not require a pre-employment medical.

Notes: This is a temporary position available immediately for a period of 12 months with the possibility of permanency.

A Merit Pool may be established from this selection process to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.

Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant will be required to work in the office a minimum of three days per week.
