Details: The ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) is seeking enthusiastic, experienced, and skilled candidates with a background and/or experience in volunteer emergency services to apply for the role of Membership Officer. Individuals applying for this role will hold a passion for supporting, valuing and respecting our volunteers, recognising their contributions and commitment to the ACT Community.
This role serves as the vital link between ACTSES headquarters and our volunteers. The ACTSES Membership Officer is a hands-on, front-facing position with diverse responsibilities. The ideal candidate will seamlessly transition between administrative tasks, contributing to strategic and business plans, ensuring workplace health and safety, and supporting headquarters staff in delivering the ACTSES business plan.
You will be able to produce high quality work, correspondence and briefs, submissions, reports, and maintain systems for accurate membership records and develop reports related to volunteer management. The ideal candidate will contribute to sustainable volunteer workforce strategies; and provide innovative ways to ensure our volunteer workforce are engaged, celebrated and always informed.
Candidates will also contribute to emergency incidents undertaking operational duties in accordance with legislative responsibilities under the ACT Emergencies Act 2004, as required.

Eligibility/Other requirements:
Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
- Background in working or volunteering in an emergency services organisation is highly desirable
- Qualifications and/or experience in a field relating to emergency management are desirable.
- Background and Security clearance checks will be conducted including National Police Records Check.
- Minimum ‘C’ Class driver’s licence is essential.
- Work after hours and on weekends, including attending meetings, local Unit visits, and through periods of heightened operational response.
- Participation as Duty Officer may be required if the holder of the position has the needed background knowledge and skills needed to perform the duty role.
- Willingness to assist in supporting operational responses to emergency incidents including outside of normal working hours.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months.
Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
This position is required to work after hours and at weekends, including attending meetings, local Unit visits through periods of operational response, and participation as Duty Officer may be required.
