Details: An exciting opportunity exists for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person who is empathetic, enthusiastic and compassionate to join our team at Victim Support ACT within the Human Rights Commission on a six-month contract. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer will undertake a range of duties to support the delivery and operation of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Program.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Liaison Officer is the first point of contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, ensuring they are provided with culturally appropriate support as victims of crime. The role requires building and maintaining strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander agencies and other key services to ensure clients receive the support they need.
Eligibility/Other requirements:
This is an Identified position in accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only open to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander lived experience and cultural capability is considered essential and therefore confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage may be requested.
- Qualifications in social work, human services delivery, or related disciplines would be highly regarded. Or undertaking current studies in these areas.
- Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
- Driver’s license class C is essential.
Note: This is a temporary position available immediately for six months. This position is only open to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person.
A merit list will be established from this selection process and used to fill potential vacancies over the next 12 months.
