Details: The Assistant Director will be responsible for the financial management of project budgets across a portfolio of early-stage property development initiatives. This role is ideal for someone with a strong interest in the renewal and expansion of Canberra’s suburbs, coupled with sharp attention to detail and well-developed problem-solving capabilities.
Working closely with internal Development Managers, the successful candidate will be highly people-focused and an effective communicator in both hybrid and in-person work environments.
Experience in management accounting and financial analysis—particularly within government or private sector settings—will be highly regarded. Candidates with a background in preparing project reports and translating financial information for non-financial stakeholders are especially encouraged to apply.
This position sits within the Management Accounting team, a critical financial services function in the Finance, Systems & Valuations Branch of the Suburban Land Agency (SLA). The team is responsible for monitoring property development budgets throughout the full project lifecycle—from pre-planning through construction, sales, and close-out.
Comprising five members, the team leads revenue and expenditure forecasting for development projects, which represent the majority of SLA’s work. As part of this team, the Assistant Director will play a key role in guiding SLA’s efforts to deliver vibrant, well-planned communities across the ACT region.
Eligibility/Other requirements: Tertiary qualification in a related field and professional membership (or currently working towards) of CPA Australia/CAANZ or comparable bodies are highly desirable.
Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
